Wyatt's Feelings on Stranger Danger

Some moments in life must be recorded in one way or another. We had one of those moments the other night with our little Wyatt (4 years old).

For Family Home Evening we were discussing "Stranger Danger" and basic safety rules at our house. We were talking with our kids about different situations that could come up. This is hard as a parent because you don't want to scare your kids but you also want to make them aware and be prepared in case they ever needed to protect themselves. So after we had said pretty much all we were going to say Jeremy added his last dad thoughts which are always the same when we have these conversations. He tells the boys that if anything were to ever happen to them, if they were lost or if someone took them they needed to know that he would always come for them. He said he would not eat, sleep or do anything until he had them back home. The boys didn't say anything and we asked them if they had any questions about what we had been talking about. Wyatt quietly said, "Dad, would you bring your truck?" Jeremy said, "Yes". Wyatt then said, "Can I sit in the front?" Jeremy could hardly keep a straight face and said, "Yes". Wyatt said, "OK" and he was content, almost excited with Jeremy's answer. Well, hopefully something we said got through to them that night, if nothing else, Wyatt knows where he'll be sitting if Dad ever has to come and rescue him.

Sandy, This makes me think of Kevin and Eli when they were little and Kevin said that if Eli were lost he would make a sign that said, "Eli, lost, friends with Kevin, likes to play pirates." Do you remember that? We miss you guys and have to get together! Please e-mail me with your Spring Break dates, if you'll be in town. Maybe we can get together and celebrate some March birthdays!~Janet

One would hope that they get something out of those lessons. Jeremy must have one cool truck!

Hey our family wishes that we can one day sit in the front of Jeremy's truck too. But really Wyatt is so funny. Wouldn't it be great to spend one day in the mind of that child.
