Last week Eli was able to attend Diabetes Camp- Camp Wana Kura for his second year. It is such an amazing week for him and he looks so forward to it every year. It is in Santee Regional park near San Diego. He goes all day and I pick him up every afternoon. It is all for kids with diabetes which is such a great opportunity for him to mingle with other kids with his disease. They do tons of crafts which is right up Eli's alley, they have water party's, do paddle boats in the lake and many more day camp type activities. It is a great chance for him to see that he is not the only one that gets low blood sugars, not the only one who has to stop and test his blood, and that he is much more like other kids than different. At the hospital where we get our quarterly workups done he sees a wonderful nurse practitioner who was his "Camp Nurse" this year. She is so amazing as she has had diabetes herself most of her life. She took Eli under her wing and made him feel so special this year, even awarded him camper of the year for their unit. Jeremy and I are so thankful that he has this great week every year and look forward to him being part of it for many years to come. A big thanks again to my parents for getting their timeshare for us so we didn't have to drive back and forth. More pictures to come of the fun things we did with them.
Here is Eli with Laura Barba, his Nurse Practitioner. That smile on Eli's face never leaves for the four days he is at camp.
This is Eli's unit that he spent the week with, this is on the last day when they are getting ready to do their skit. Eli told a joke for his part.
This is their camp picture, the theme for camp this year was "On the Road to a Cure" and each unit was a different kind of car. Eli's unit was the mini coopers.
